Stunning camellias to take centre stage in Monchique

Next weekend (February 15-16) will mark the return of Monchique’s Camellias Festival.

Now in its sixth edition, the event shines the spotlight on Monchique’s dazzling camellias which are just one of the reasons why the area is so renowned for its natural beauty.

Visitors will be able to enjoy a wealth of entertainment at the town’s Largo dos Chorões, including art exhibitions, live art and music performances and workshops.

One of the highlights will be the popular ‘Rota das Camélias’ (Camellia Route) which explores many spots around the borough where these flowers can be admired.

The walk will begin on Sunday, February 16 at 9.30am. Those interested in participating can sign up by sending an email with their personal information (name, address, telephone number and date of birth) to [email protected]

There will also be two concerts by the Algarve Jazz Orchestra Duo (February 15 at 5.30pm) and by Fado singer Viviane (February 16 at 5pm).

Camellias are flowers with short life spans that thrive in winter. However, they can be spotted nearly all-year-long in Monchique because there are so many varieties.
