Lisbon’s CHULN university hospital centre is taking part in a European study to identify the risk of breast cancer in young women through a genetic test being developed by an international team. CHULN is “the only Portuguese hospital centre available to women who want to determine the increased genetic risk of developing this disease, and adapt screening and measures to this risk”, said spokespeople for the hospitals involved, Santa Maria and Pulido Valente. The BRIGHT project (standing for Be RIGHT with breast cancer risk management) is funded to the tune of around €2.9 million by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology. It is also running in hospitals in Sweden and Estonia.
