Students in the Algarve are being encouraged to find a summer job in the regional tourism sector to keep them busy during their upcoming holidays.
The Algarve tourism board (RTA) has teamed up with the national employment and professional training institute (IEFP) to create a measure that “promotes job opportunities for students during their summer holidays”.
It also aims to “create new synergies and dynamics in the tourism sector”.
The initiative is open to all students aged 16-plus who “want to enrich their life experience and acquire new knowledge for their transition into the labour market”.
Employers can contact schools, universities and professional training centres directly or announce their job vacancies on their own social media pages and websites.
Students, on the other hand, can sign up directly with companies offering employment or through any job platform available.
As Algarve tourism boss João Fernandes admits, the initiative aims to increase the region’s manpower during the summer. Hoteliers have frequently complained about a shortage of staff in the Algarve, however, hotel workers have struck back saying that there is instead a lack of “responsible employers” (click here).
