Students of the Vilamoura International School took part in the Diwali celebration at the end of their last school term in October.
All pupils from nursery up to year 6 celebrated the “festival of lights” by listening to the story of Rama and Sita, making their own Diwali lamps and tasting Indian food.
Year 5 and 6 students were invited for a meal by the Tandoori Indian Palace restaurant in Almancil and then ended the celebrations with a school assembly, where all students lit their Diwali lamps.
Head of primary at the school, James Denton told the Algarve Resident: “For all the staff involved, it was a really special moment seeing the student’s faces over 100 flickering tea lights, knowing that the pupils now understood the significance of why Diwali is referred as the festival of lights.”
