Student rental contracts ‘blur’ in Porto

More than half Porto’s university students are in the parallel rentals market, without a contract or receipts – and 18% of these young people – particularly those from low income families – are pondering leaving higher education altogether, according to an inquiry released today by FAP, the Porto Academic Federation. The issue is inflation, says FAP president Ana Gabriela Cabilhas. Students rent in the parallel market in order to find affordable accommodation, but because they have no receipts, they cannot prove the expenditure in order to get rentals relief – and with the cost of living increasing, they cannot afford the luxury of staying in further education.
