Stroke report

PEOPLE IN Portugal are more likely to die, become handicapped and stay longer in hospital after a stroke, according to a damming report presented by the European Stroke Organisation.

This study, which evaluated 886 hospitals in 25 EU countries, revealed that only 8.5 per cent of these provide good hospital assistance to stroke victims, although they only treat 13.5 per cent of the total number.

Portugal is the third country in Europe to register more stroke related patients per hospital each year, with an average of 500 patients per hospital.
