INTENSIVE REHEARSALS have begun for the next concert by St. Julian’s School in Carcavelos. Presented by St. Julian’s Strings, Music for a Summer’s Evening, to be held on Tuesday, June 21 at 7.30pm, will include solo and small group items as well as pieces performed by the String Orchestra.
St. Julian’s Strings is a project that was started three years ago, when it was decided to introduce string playing to as many children as possible in the school. A huge response meant that around 40 children started playing a variety of stringed instruments. With a mixture of hard work, enthusiasm, a love of their instruments and music, they progressed quickly giving their first performance at the Primary School Christmas Assembly in December 2002. In order to keep this momentum going and to further their standards, the group has now expanded to include members of the Senior School.
The musical evening will be the third of this new organisation, which will present a varied programme of light music, including Strauss waltzes and a Celtic folk song extravaganza.
Tickets for the concert cost five euros each and can be obtained from the school’s Primary or Senior School offices. All enquiries to David Higginbottom on tel/fax 214 563 751 or e-mail [email protected]
