Flights in and out of Lisbon are being affected by strike action this morning. Since midnight last night, airport staff have been on a major go-slow, with delays on all incoming and outgoing flight schedules. SITAVA, the syndicate of airport and aviation workers, has declared itself: “well satisfied” with adhesion to the strike by workers employed by Groundforce, saying in some areas, support has been over 90%.
At issue are management’s plans to reorganise timetables. “people cannot take any further disorganisation of their work schedules”, SITAVA’s Fernando Henriques told Lusa news agency, adding that no flights have left on time this morning and delays, which are already stretching to an hour and a half, “will increase further” as the morning progresses.
Meantime, flights into Faro from the UK have been suffering delays all day due to horrendous weather conditions in Britain. Easyjet particularly has been hit, with one morning flight delayed over eight hours and at least one other flight from Gatwick cancelled altogether.
