A grenade, used for military exercises, found by a passerby near the Clube Náutico de Lagos was disarmed by the maritime police on Monday.
Cruz Martins, commander of the Lagos port authority, said the maritime police and navy were alerted to the discovery on Sunday at 8.45am.
He added that navy personnel went to the site and confirmed the find before the area was cordoned off and maritime police, with the help of navy explosive specialists, removed the grenade to carry out a controlled explosion.
