GUNS, which are traditionally fired in some areas of Portugal on New Year’s Eve, caused the evening to end in tragedy with two deaths, one in Lisbon and one in Gaia.
A nine year old girl was killed when playing in the street in the Quinta do Lavrado housing estate near Lisbon. A bullet from an unknown source hit the girl in the head, causing her death.
In Gaia, a 23-year old man was killed when taking part in shooting into the air at the housing estate where he lived. A bullet from a shotgun hit him in the head.
