Storms destroys Faro beach jetty

A wooden jetty near Faro beach’s nautical centre was “completely destroyed” on Friday afternoon (April 21) after waves caused boats moored nearby to break anchor and crash into it.

Faro council will be replacing it with a “temporary structure” as soon as possible as the jetty is needed for water sport activities in Ria Formosa.

Meantime, a tender is being launched for a new structure.

The council has added that it was already planning a new jetty (to cost around €180,000), as the one destroyed was built 13 years ago and has needed “three maintenance interventions” since.
