Steven Odendaal crowned Europe’s Moto2 champion in Portimão

Steven Odendaal is Europe’s new Moto2 champion.

The South African racer won both of his races at the FIM CEV Repsol competition held at Portimão’s racetrack between Thursday and Sunday (August 25-28), which granted him the title with two races still to spare.

In eight races this season, he took six victories, one second place and one third place, only missing the podium in one of the two races held in Barcelona.

Other winners at the FIM CEV Repsol event included Spanish racers Marcos Ramirez and Carmelo Morales.

Ramirez placed first in the Moto3 Junior World Championship race, finishing three thousandths of a second over the current leader of the class, Lorenzo Dalla Porta, who nonetheless remains 31 points ahead of Ramirez in the general standings.

Finally, in the European Superbike category it was Morales who came out on top, winning both races and extending his lead over rival Maximilian Scheib to 17 points.

The FIV CEV Repsol championship continues on October 2 at the Jerez racetrack in Valencia, Spain.
