Sterilisation campaign for feral cats in Olhão

A sterilisation programme to tackle the growing numbers of feral cats in the Olhão municipality is scheduled by the local authority this month.

The campaign aims to slow down the rapid breeding among cat colonies, which is more difficult to control.

The municipality stressed that it is relying on the collaboration of private veterinary doctors to carry out the surgeries, and domestic animals known to have owners are not included in the campaign.

Previous campaigns have been hailed a success by the municipal authority, which is working in collaboration with animal welfare associations ADAPO and LOOA, responsible for identifying the colonies and collecting the animals for sterilisation.
