“A picture says a thousand words” – and in this case, the latest calendar promoted by young farmers in Barcelos should see a stampede ‘back to the land’.
The 12-strong group of extremely fit men have all posed ‘topless’ for a fundraising calendar that puts farming in a shining new light.
This isn’t ‘tawdry/ silly’, it’s a bid to help those less fortunate than themselves at the same time as promoting a sector that the nation’s youth have been spurning for decades.
Thirty-something Quinoa producer Filipe Figueiredo is delighted with the results – and the €5 calendar hasn’t even gone on sale yet.
The initial print run has had to be doubled to meet demand, and the initiative has already appeared in prime-time news bulletins, in newspapers and magazines.
Said Correio da Manhã, the calendar “means to demystify the idea that the farming sector is full of old men”.
It is also designed to raise money for IPSS Recovery, a not-for-profit association aimed at helping people with mental illness.
“Ao Serviço da Terra” is launching its “agriculture solidarity” calendar at a special ceremony in Barcelos on Friday October 13 at the Instituto Politécnico de Cávado e Ave, auditorium 1, at 9pm.
Any information on how/ where to find the calendar will be available on the Ao Serviço da Terra Facebook page.
