Portimão Council is cutting off access to its beaches and local marina in a bid to dissuade people from leaving their home at a time when the coronavirus is spreading faster and more aggressively than ever before in Portugal.
The local authority is also ‘cordoning off’ public benches and putting up more signposting urging people to ‘stay home’.
“Tonight, while you were sleeping, teams including members of Portimão’s firefighters and municipal civil protection service reinforced signposting in areas which attract more people,” the council said on its Facebook page this morning.
It added: “We ask everyone to respect the indications and follow the restrictions.”
Experts are warning this is “nowhere near the end of Portugal’s devastating third wave” (click here).
