DUE TO the closure of the Rossio Tunnel, the opening of the new Meleças-Mira Sintra Station, planned for November 2, has been postponed by REFER, the railway authority.
Residents of Meleças and Mira Sintra will now have to wait some weeks for the opening of their new local train station, which will link Meleças and Roma-Areeiro.
The delay in opening the new station is due to the fact that “the structural changes to the line and the remodelling of the signals implies the suspension of journeys between Monte Abraão station (previously Queluz-Massamá) and Sintra,” explained a source from REFER. “Works were planned for the long weekend in order to minimise the inconvenience to customers, however, due to the closure of the Rossio Tunnel we decided to delay these works.”
A new date has not been announced for the opening of the new Meleças-Mira Sintra Station. But, on a positive note, when this station does open and the remodelling of the stations at Cacém and Barcarena has been concluded, there will eventually be a total of four rail lines through to Cacém.
Meanwhile, refurbishment works have been taking place on the EM250 between Tala-Meleças, Mira Sintra and Belas – a road that had been in poor condition and which is due to serve the new train station.
