State releases €7 million to save training programmes for the disabled

Portugal’s government has offered €7 million until March to guarantee that nearly 8,000 disabled people will continue to be trained up for the job market.

According to Renascença radio, it is an “exceptional measure” as community funding ended this month and new bids for EU money can only be presented in February.

Without this government aid, 125 institutions that provide training would be forced to stop, reports RR. There would also be no money to pay teachers’ salaries.

Hopes are that the bids for funding will be approved by April.
