Start-up loans

THE MINISTER for Employment and Social Security, Vieira da Silva, revealed that the state will be helping 600 micro credit projects in Portugal, in response to the modest necessities of local markets.

Micro credit, which is growing in Portugal, is a government-led scheme aiming to finance small projects and businesses without the need for people to get the necessary guarantees to obtain loans from a bank.

The president of the Associação Nacional de Direito ao Crédito (ANDC), the national association for credit rights, Brandão Alves, stressed that micro credit was only available to those with a well thought out business idea or project and who were unable to get a loan from a bank.
