The Angels Theatre Group received standing ovations on both nights of their recent production of The Old Time Music Hall.
On October 16 and 17, the Stable Gallery at the São Brás Museum became the venue for an authentic staging of a traditional Victorian tavern.
The worthy Chairman, played by John Griffiths, introduced the entire cast as they started the revue with a seaside medley of songs, while encouraging the audience to “sing-a-long”.
A succession of solo acts followed, led by Keith Thomas, which included Ralph Keenan, Damian King, Joy Behennah, Margaret Matterson and Marion Griffiths.
The audience enjoyed music from a quartet of barbershop singers, Cleftomania, and Sadie Mathews singing I Love You So from the Merry Widow.
No Music Hall would be complete without a melodrama and the audience responded with enthusiasm to Maria Marten and Murder in the Red Barn, booing the villain played by John Griffiths, cheering the hero played by Roger Legg and encouraging the heroine played by Patricia Nascimento.
A supper of bangers and mash was included in the ticket price and supported by a busy bar with serving wenches.
A total of over 4,000 euros was raised to benefit the aged of São Brás with the help of São Brás Solidário.
