THE PRESIDENT of the Algarve Regional Health Authority, Rui Lourenço, has pledged to bolster staff numbers in the region’s hospitals and health centres this summer. The plan envisages the creation of 23 beach centres monitored by the Red Cross, as well as a reinforcement of emergency vehicles and the acclimatisation of health centres in Vila Real, Loulé, Albufeira and Silves. But Lourenço insists that the improved service will not prevent doctors taking time off. “I say to the doctors that it is possible to adhere to the plan without having to forsake holidays,” he said.
