St. Vincent’s Church welcomes new Father

Members of the St. Vincent’s Church will be welcoming a new face into the community as Father Bob Bates takes up the position of Chaplain for the eastern Algarve.

Father Bob Bates and his wife Diane arrived from Stamford, Peterborough, UK, on May 24 to join the ministry team of St. Vincent’s and will be living in the Chaplaincy house in Boliqueime, between the two churches he will now be responsible for in Almancil and Gorjões.

Previously, Father Bates worked in a busy and active Parish in the diocese of Peterborough where he was the assistant to the Rector, making him qualified to take up his new role in the Algarve.

He will be officially beginning his work on Pentecost Sunday, the birthday of the Christian Church, on May 31, replacing locum priests who have been filling the position for the past three years.

Father Haynes Hubbard told the Algarve Resident: “The people of St. Vincent’s welcome Father Bob and Diane with open arms and look forward very much to their leadership and fellowship in the life of the Parish.”
