The St Patrick’s Society of the Algarve held its 14th annual general meeting on May 17 in the Lagoa Hotel. The Society promotes social activities for Irish people and their friends.
Jim Brownlow, retiring Chairman, highlighted “successful events” held in the last year such as the St Patrick’s celebration dinner-dance, a winery visit, monthly walks and lunch meetings.
Members heard that the Society was in a healthy financial state and elected a new committee for the coming year. Alan Camplin-Smith was elected Chairman with Neil Rodgers as his deputy. Teresa Ferreira will assume the role of Secretary with Jean Bourcelot as Treasurer. The new Membership Secretary will be Catherine Walsh but Joanne Zive, who previously filled that role, was voted back on to the Committee to lend her experience to new members.
Pat Camplin-Smith was elected to carry on her Publicity role which she has undertaken for the past five years. St Pat’s was delighted to elect new members Jerry and Tracy Dowd to the joint roles of Events Secretaries.
The membership fee will continue at €10 to be spent on organising events for members. A dinner followed the AGM.
