St Patrick’s fun in Algarve

March 17 is the feast day of Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. On Saturday, May 16, the St. Patrick’s Society of the Algarve held a dinner dance at the Pestana Viking hotel in Armação de Pêra to celebrate the occasion.

The event was a success with 82 members and guests attending the party – a number that indicates “a current resurgence of interest in the society and its activities, no doubt due to the sterling efforts of the Committee of Neil Rodgers, Teresa Ferreira and Mary Vaughan”, said the society in a press release.

On the night, Society Chairman Damien Clarke acknowledged their “hard work in the planning and execution of the event”. He also thanked Juliet Fortune and her sister Stella of Porches Pottery for their help in decorating the room as well as the management and staff of the Viking hotel for providing “a marvellous meal”.

The music was supplied by Vitor Talhadas and his performance had guests on the dance floor even before they had finished the meal.

The St. Patrick’s Society organises social events throughout the year and is always on the lookout for new members (any nationality!).
