Valverde Lawn Bowls Club in Almancil ended its winter season with the open Spring Pairs competition. Bowlers from Parque da Floresta, Tavira and Balaia bowls clubs took part.
The event was sponsored by Private Fund Management, and Alex Phillpot was there to present the prizes.
The first prize went to Brian and Mandy Fitzgibbon of Valverde. They won by just one point from John Denn and Alan Hyatt, also of Valverde. In third place were Lynn Phillips and Denis Mole.
It was a double celebration for Mandy and Brian as they were also presented with the trophy for winning group A of the club’s Australian Pairs League. Gavin and Mary Bryson were the winners of group B.
It has been a very successful year for Valverde in the Bowls Algarve Winter League. Valverde Vipers won Division 2 and will now move up to Division 1. Valverde Vulcans finished third in Division 1 where they were the highest-placed club who play on grass. Valverde also won the Cameron Cup for the second year running.
The club is currently welcoming UK tour teams who despite the disappointing spring weather seem to enjoy bowling in the Algarve.
