Sporting weekend

Motor sport fans will once again be amply catered for in and around Portimão as the concluding national championship Rally Casinos Algarve roars into life with a super special night stage at the Parkalgar race track tomorrow (Saturday) evening.

At the same time the city stages its 20th Tennis Open at the Portimao and Rocha Club from 2pm on both weekend afternoons.

Further east the region’s best known female boxer, Sandra “Fera Algarvia” Silva, recently returned from Milan, is the only local fighter representing the national colours during tomorrow (Saturday) night’s prestigious Portugal v France kick boxing international.

The contest will be witnessed by Albufeira martial arts stars Florin Vintila and Bruno Santos, who have also returned from Switzerland where they recorded impressive knockout victories over highly respected opposition at the sport’s ‘Mega-Klash’ spectacular to be shown on Eurosport later this month.

Lastly, Tavira stages its cycling ‘Maratona Credito Agricola’ from 9.30 on Sunday with the participation of local favourites Tour of Portugal winner David Blanco and star veteran Candido Barbosa.
