Portimonense showed greater maturity as a single Simi strike proved enough to see off Sporting B’s high-flying youngsters on the banks of the Arade last Saturday evening.
The result provided the Algarve club with back-to-back victories following its pre-Christmas 2-1 away success in Guimarães and manager Lázaro Oliveira’s men are starting to look like genuine promotion contenders. Although still seven points behind the top two, another win at Atlético this Sunday afternoon can further fuel the push for top class status in what is proving to be a very competitive second division.
