Sporting Clube de Portugal fans headquarters burgled

The fierce looking lion guarding the entrance of the fan club in Lagos that supports Sporting Club football team failed to frighten burglars, who broke into the building and stole alcoholic drink, €400 in cash and caused €1,500 worth of damage.

The intruders smashed open the front door of the club in Rua da Oliveira in the historic centre of the town in the early hours of the morning.

At the doorway of the club, established 22 years ago, is a large ceramic model of a lion baring its teeth, symbolising the nickname “Leões” (Lions) of the Lisbon-basedclub SCP, which plays in the Portuguese premier league.
