Between October 10 and 16, twenty people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, four for drug trafficking and nine for driving without a legal license.
The GNR’s Faro Territorial Command carried out a series of operations, in the district of Faro, between October 10 and 16. These were aimed at preventing and combating violent crime and road inspection, among others.
In a statement, the GNR said 55 people were arrested this week: 20 for driving under the influence of alcohol, 4 for drug trafficking and 9 for driving without a legal license.
The authorities seized 390 doses of hashish, 265 doses of cocaine, 18 doses of cannabis, one vehicle and 20 cell phones.
Within the traffic inspection scope, 537 infractions were detected. 129 of these were for speeding, 52 for lack of MOT test, 27 related to head and taillight anomalies and signalling systems, 21 for improper use of a mobile phone while driving, 17 for lack of or incorrect use of a seat belt or child restraint system, 14 for lack of insurance and 13 related to tire anomalies.
As for road accidents, the GNR recorded 139 accidents, which resulted in 31 minor injuries, and one fatality.
