Speed limits disregarded

Dear Editor,

Regarding your article in the October 15 2010 edition headed “Drivers in the ditch”, I fully sympathise with Suzy Turner and the other drivers whose tyres were damaged opposite the main entrance to Serra e Mar in Alcalar on Monday October 11 and whom I saw as I drove past very shortly afterwards.

However I feel it must be pointed out that the contractors working on a new mains drainage scheme had installed warning signs both sides of the working area with 30kms on a yellow background surrounded by red circle, which means a mandatory legally enforceable speed limit.

The local speed limits are disregarded generally and it is often very difficult to exit the second entrance to Serra e Mar due to the excessive speed of drivers on the Alcalar road, particularly those travelling from the Portimão direction.
