THE MAXIMUM speed limit for urban, residential and predominantly pedestrian areas will be reduced to 30km per hour over the next few years.
As part of the national road safety strategy (ENSR), the new restrictions will be implemented in an effort to reduce accident and road deaths across the board.
ENSR has set targets to reduce road deaths by 30 per cent by 2015 and speed restrictions are just part of the overall campaign.
More pavements for pedestrians will also be created along Portuguese roads. Read related article on page 3.
