Speed-check radars “ready for New Year”

Lisbon’s drivers have been warned. Speed-check radars that have remained inoperative for years are being resurrected as we write. They will all be working properly by January, Lisbon Mayor and new Socialist leader António Costa has assured.
The 21 radars are in the Avenidas das Descobertas, da Índia, Cidade do Porto, Brasília, de Ceuta, Infante Dom Henrique, Estados Unidos da América, Marechal Gomes da Costa and Gago Coutinho, as well as in the Campo Grande, Marquês de Pombal and Avenida João XXI tunnels.
Needless to say, PSD councillors were not content with the news and demanded to know why certain traffic lights in the capital remain out of order.
Thinking deftly on his feet, Costa advised his opposition colleagues that this was because the traffic light repair company was “not doing its job as it should”. He suggested councillors call the repair service every time they noticed a faulty set of lights.
