The International School of the Algarve in Porches will be organising a series of pedagogical lectures given by renowned professionals this year.

The lectures will be monthly and at various venues throughout the Algarve, open to the general public and free of charge. The theme for the lectures will be ‘Schools and their Policies on the Personal, Health, Social and Emotional Development of their Pupils’.

The first lecture entitled ‘Bullying’ will take place on Wednesday, January 30 at 6pm and at the Municipal Auditorium in Lagoa, with the support of the câmara.

The lecture will be given by Luís Fernandes (pictured) in Portuguese.

Luís Fernandes has a degree in Educational Psychology and a Masters degree in ‘Observation and Analysis of Educational Relationships’.

He was previously a professor at the Instituto Superior de Psicologia Aplicada (ISPA) in Beja and is currently associated to Sementes de Vida – Associação de Apoio à Vítima (victim support group) in Beja.

Luís Fernandes is an expert at working with Portuguese schools to develop policies on bullying and violence. He is also the co-author of the book PLANO Bullying: como apagar o bullying da Escola (Plan Bullying: how to erase bullying from the school), which was published in October 2012.

A spokesman for the school said: “The International School of the Algarve believes it is important for educators and parents to have access to current pedagogical practices, in order to ensure effective schooling and parenting for all children and is pleased to be able to sponsor and welcome all interested parties to its lectures.”
