In the headlines recently thanks to a drink-fuelled invasion by Brits, Albufeira is making efforts to change its image by inviting foreign police in to accompany routine patrols. This summer, French ‘gendarmes’ and Spanish ‘Guardia Civil’ are in evidence to the delight of visiting nationals who have told news station RTP that they now feel “more secure”, knowing there are police on duty who speak their language.
The scheme is part of Albufeira’s “Turismo Seguro” initiative.
