Spain ready to ‘help’ Portugal as hospitals struggle to cope with Covid-19

Spain has said it too will be ready to help Portugal as hospitals struggle to cope with the demands of the pandemic.

Said João Mira Gomes, Portugal’s ambassador in Madrid, discussions are now underway “at a technical level” to decide “the modalities of this support”.

It will almost certainly involve offering space in Spanish hospitals.

Spain is still under various forms of lockdown, with its own health system under pressure, though not as intense as issues being experienced in Portugal.

The news comes as offers of international aid have been received from Germany and Austria (click here).
