SPANISH SECURITY forces are investigating possible arms purchases by ETA in Portugal.
They are concerned that alleged purchases in Portugal, Italy and the Balkans recently could relate to an increase in activities by the Basque separatist organisation in recent months. It is believed that ETA representatives have been in Portugal recently with a view to obtaining arms and to set up logistic support units. Evidence suggests that there was an increase in arms deal activities in Portugal and Italy in December.
