Spain diverts Tejo water to thirsty areas of Murcia, Alicante and Almeria

With Spain authorising a new transfer of water from the Tejo River, environmentalists are calling for “controlled management” of flows, saying what happens right now is prejudicial for Portugal. Quercus claims the Portuguese government should monitor all rivers that enter the country to make the amount of water taken does not become excessive. The latest ‘decant’ from the Tejo before it left Spanish territory involved 10 hectometres – 100,000 centimetres.

According to a report in Correio da Manhã, the ‘decant’ from the Tejo to the Segura river took place this month and is due to feed thirsty areas of Murcia, Alicante and Almeria.
