The head of South Africa’s diplomatic service is visiting Portugal today, ostensibly to discuss international and regional issues of “common interest” and prepare for the visit of Portuguese president Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa to the country in June. South Africa has recently been a hot topic in the international press over its relationship with Russia. There were claims the country was supplying Russia with weapons, which South Africa has since denied. South African president Cyril Ramaphosa has since intimated that the country is involved in trying to broker peace between Russia and Ukraine.
