Sousa sponsors boys home team

news: Sousa sponsors boys home team

FORMER PORTUGUESE international midfielder Paulo Sousa is sponsoring a new football team from the Instituto D. Francisco Gomes in Faro, a boys home better known as Casa dos Rapazes.

The team, composed of current and former residents of the boys home, will contest the district championships of the Algarve Football Association’s (AFA) second division next season.

Faro Câmara President, José Vitorino, attended the recent sponsors ceremony along with the team’s players. The president of the institute, António Barão, a former player and now football strategist, paid tribute to Sousa’s involvement, describing it as crucial. “Sponsorship of the team by an internationally known sportsman like Paulo Sousa is fundamental because it gives more visibility to the project, contributing to the development of the institute,” he said.

Sousa, 35, retired from professional football in 2002 following a bad spate of injuries.
