A SERIES of promotional activities were held this year by the Eastern Algarve Association and the Sotavento’s Programa Acção Específica (PAE), or specific action plan, in order to boost the region’s profile.
The PAE, in conjunction with the Algarve Tourism Board, arranged visits to the area for tour operators, sports promoters and journalists from other European countries, and staged a series of road shows in the Spanish cities of Seville, Madrid and Barcelona.
In October, the PAE sponsored major events, including the Algarve Seniors Open, an event that forms part of the PGA European Tour (European Seniors Circuit) and which was a prelude to the Algarve World Cup, due to be contested in Vilamoura between November 15 and 20.
Other activities planned for this month include participation in London’s World Travel Market Fair. The overall budget for this year’s campaign was set at 206,000 euros.
