THE RESIDENT was again invited to be part of the panel of judges for St Julian’s School’s songwriting competition. Judging by last Christmas’ carol writing competition, the standard of the songs at this competition had improved even more. We listened as Years 6, 7, 8 and 9 entered their best songs into the final stage of the competition. Most of the songs had ‘love’ as the theme. In the first half of the evening, the voting had left the judges with five songs to listen to again. The second time around was fiercely contested with the singing certainly improved. The eventual winners of the competition were 8JC singing ‘Somebody You Love’. Our congratulations are also extended to the other four finalists, 9MJ with ‘Dark Love’, 9JS with ‘What I’d Do’, 9MJ with ‘You’ and 9DC with ‘I Think I’m Falling in Love’. Bob Hughes
