Son of former President marks death of Angola’s former president with lack of tact and diplomacy

João Soares – the former minister of Culture for to resign over fairly unministerial comments – has stayed true to form today, when quizzed by Lusa over his thoughts on the death in a Barcelona clinic of former Angolan president Eduardo dos Santos. The son of Portugal’s iconic former president Mário Soares, João Soares said: “He had the best medical care, especially outside Angola, because unfortunately the Angola that he and (current president) João Lourenço leave – they are inseparable despite the ‘Shakespearean’ drama between them – is an Angola where nobody can get decent medical treatment, not even the kleptocratic ruling elite that has ruled Angola for 48 years.”
