Mar Shopping Algarve in Loulé has set up a ‘Despensa Solidária’ (Solidarity Pantry) near its Pingo Doce supermarket which will allow visitors to donate a variety of items to families in need across the Algarve.
During the first stage of the initiative, the donations will be delivered by Pingo Doce to the Portuguese Red Cross, Re-Food Almancil, GATO and Animal Rescue Algarve.
Says Mar Shopping, the selected charities help families in need as well as people who have had to request help due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Throughout the year, the donations will be delivered to other charities in order to “support the maximum number of people with different needs”.
To help out, all you need to do is leave any item or items you would like to donate at the ‘Solidarity Pantry’ which has been set up.
The list of needed items is extensive, ranging from a variety of food and drinks for adults, children and toddlers to personal hygiene products such as soap, shampoo, shower gel, diapers and toothbrushes.
The initiative also seeks to collect products for animals, such as food, cat litter, dewormers and treats.
Cleaning products, from rubbish bags to laundry and dish washing detergents, are also welcomed.
