As the country’s newspapers variously cover his alleged nefarious exploits, José Sócrates is due “back on the road” on Saturday, in Vila Velha de Ródão.
“This is just the beginning,” his right-hand man and former MP André Figueiredo is reported to have promised via Facebook.
Diário de Notícias explains Sócrates will be taking part in a conference on justice and politics, a week after his release from house arrest following over 140 days in Évora jail.
The event takes place at Casa das Artes e Cultura, at 5pm, and Figueiredo is quoted as telling his followers: “Come on! Take part and share!”
Curiously however, Figueiredo’s Facebook page appears to have been wiped of these exhortations, which DN attribute to him having made only yesterday.
The paper adds that the venue is in the borough of Castelo Branco – “the district in which the former head of government began his career and for which he was many times elected a member of parliament”.
