“FEAR AND insecurity have taken hold of our daily lives,” said Socialist Party candidate for the presidency of Loulé Câmara, Vítor Aleixo.
Announcing his candidacy recently at a dinner in the presence of ex-European Commissioner, António Vitorino, Aleixo focussed on the increased number of “assaults and robberies” taking place in the county, “almost every day, with elevated violence”.He went on to promise that if he is elected in October, he will present a specific programme for the increased security of citizens, through the creation of new policing structures, including the establishment of a Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP) unit that would, in collaboration with the Guarda Nacional Republicana (GNR), use electronic vigilance equipment to monitor public spaces.
Speaking to an audience of approximately 800 supporters, Aleixo also promised to establish a GNR station in Almancil and improvement works at stations in Quarteira and Salir.
