Social events raise money for Algarve children’s charity ACCA

A coffee morning and a bridge tournament raised around €3,700 in aid of Algarve children’s charity ACCA, which looks after underprivileged children. It works with a number of homes and institutions, funding everything from urgent medication needs to back-to-school essentials.
Villas & Vacations in Almancil hosted the coffee morning raising just over €1,000. The event was buzzing, despite the rain, with attendees buying cakes, beauty products and books.
“Every cent” went to ACCA who will use the funds towards its Christmas Angel programme, which ensures that every child on its wish-list of 1,500 gets a special gift from Santa this year. For information about the programme, contact Jackie Quirk on 963 494 788.
Meanwhile, €2,700 was raised at a bridge tournament held at Quinta Jacintina in Almancil.
More than 80 players enjoyed lunch and the challenge, while the auction of a mini iPad attracted many bids, producing a further contribution of €170.
Eighteen tables met to compete for the Quinta Jacintina Bridge Charity Cup.
The participants played Swiss Teams and, after a full day of bridge, the winners, with 85 points, were Soheila Munro, Dickie van Linden, Cathy and Mike Davies. Marc Beijsterveldt came from Holland to act as the official Bridge Director for the event.
