ISABEL SOARES, Câmara President of Silves, has announced that she will run for a second term, despite accusations that public funds have been mismanaged while she has been in charge.
An internal investigation was launched into irregularities over some contracts for building work. It is claimed bids for the contracts were not opened to the public.
Mendes Bota, leader of the Algarve’s centre-right Social Democrats (PSD) party said that when the anomalies were detected, Soares was the first to demand an investigation.
The investigation report was filed and copies sent to the Finanças, Judicial Police, Public Ministry and the national administration inspectors. He added that Soares will have his full support during her re-election campaign.
