Welcome back to all our ‘Snowbirds’ who fly north for the summer and return to the Algarve for the winter. Most clubs have had a hectic time, with over a month of visiting teams from the UK, meaning quite a few clubs have had to play every day.
A heavy schedule, with many clubs struggling to find enough players to fulfil the rinks required, but we all share the time we have available, and helping other clubs is always enjoyable. It is always an amusing time of year as everyone is in party mode, out to enjoy themselves and have fun bowling.
Now the visitors have left, it is time for our own bowling season to begin. The first game was the Super 10’s on Thursday, October 24, which dawned bright and beautiful. Tavira gained six points against Balaia who won two; Pedras also won six points from Floresta winning two; with Valverde and Alvor winning four points each; Albufeira were the resting team this week.
This sees Tavira and Pedras at the top of the table with six points each, whilst Valverde and Alvor are second with four points each, Floresta and Balaia with two points each.
Some of our teams must have taken a lead from the England Rugby team today with some excellent results. Saturday, October 26 was the beginning of the Winter League games, and an excellent day it was, brilliant and sunny, and full of first-rate bowling.
League ‘A’ saw Valverde Vikings taking two points from Albufeira Cats who won six; Floresta Foresters took all eight points from Pedras Panthers; Tavira Tigers likewise took all eight points from Balaia Pods; whilst Alvor Amigos took two points from their team-mates Alvor Rooks who won six.
In League ‘B’, Floresta Huntsman took all eight points from their team-mates Floresta Rangers; Balaia Whalers lost all their points to Valverde Vulcans who won eight; whilst Alvor Greens lost all their points to Valverde Vipers winning eight. Alvor Scorpions were the resting team this week.
The top of League ‘A’ Table has Floresta Foresters and Tavira Tigers on eight points each, Albufeira Cats and Alvor Rooks both on six. League ‘B’ Table has Valverde Vulcans, Valverde Vipers and Floresta Huntsman all on eight points.
The first round of our Inter-Club Championships is also taking place amongst the league games. Only the first week, with a long way to go for everyone.
