A video showing how beachgoers are ‘reserving’ spots at Algarve beaches by placing towels and umbrellas early in the morning and then leaving to have breakfast and take their time to show up on the sands has caused a wave of outrage on social media.
The controversial footage was captured at 8am at Armação de Pêra beach.
It shows the place deserted but peppered already with umbrellas and beachtowels.
“These kinds of situations should be forbidden. In Portimão this is starting to happen as well,” wrote one commenter.
As others chipped in, this has been happening for years at Algarve beaches but now gets more attention as videos go viral.
