Smuggled tobacco

Seven thousand packs of smuggled tobacco were seized by the GNR from a store located along Avenida Sá Carneiro in Albufeira on Monday last week. The smuggled cigarettes, of brands little known in Portugal, had a market value of €35,000 and are believed by police to be destined for British holidaymakers, who would purchase them in large quantities to take back to the UK. Tobacco is significantly more expensive in the UK. The store owner has been charged.
