SELF CONFESSED culinary pyromaniac Simon Macdonald will be opening his new bespoke smokehouse in Armação de Pêra in mid June, with an exact date still to be confirmed.
Simon has over 20 years of experience smoking food traditionally and he has smoked everything from duck breast to alligator at his internationally acclaimed smokehouse based in Glenuig on the west coast of Scotland. Simon and his business partner John Ketley have now brought the specialist skills of smoking to the Algarve.
The Fumeiro do Algarve will be the only smokehouse in Portugal smoking fish and the only one on the Iberian peninsula smoking cheese.
The smokehouse is expected to be open by mid June but if you would like to sample some of the smoked goods provided by Macdonalds in Scotland, a limited amount is imported and sold at Blue Rock butchers on Rua dos Pescadores, Carvoeiro.
When the smokehouse is fully operational, the public will be able to buy from their extensive smoked range while products will still be sold at Blue Rock butchers.
